Chelsea FC have bolstered their midfield by completing the double signing of Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo from Sporting CP for a combined fee of £62.4 million, the Portuguese club has confirmed.
The highly-rated 17-year-old winger, Geovany Quenda, will make the switch to Stamford Bridge in a deal worth up to £44 million. However, he will remain at Sporting CP until the end of the 2025-26 season before officially joining Chelsea.
Quenda has made waves in Sporting’s first team this season and even made his Champions League debut in September.
Meanwhile, 20-year-old defensive midfielder Dario Essugo will join Chelsea in the summer transfer window for a £18.4 million fee. He is currently on loan at La Liga side Las Palmas, where he has shown promise despite receiving two red cards in his last four games.
Essugo could link up with Enzo Maresca's squad for Chelsea's participation in the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup in the United States this summer.
Quenda and Essugo are the latest additions to Chelsea's long-term youth project. The Blues have already secured 17-year-old Brazilian sensation Estevão Willian and Ecuadorian wonderkid Kendry Páez, both set to arrive in the summer.
With Chelsea’s focus on building for the future, these signings reinforce their strategy of investing in young talent from around the globe.
