Sunderland AFC have officially reached an agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion for the transfer of Tommy Watson, with the 18-year-old winger set to join the Seagulls in June 2025.
Before making the switch to the Amex Stadium, Watson will remain at the Stadium of Light for the rest of the current campaign. The deal, which involves a significant undisclosed fee, sees the highly-rated winger join a Premier League side after an impressive breakthrough season.
🔹 14 senior appearances this season, scoring twice
🔹 Five goals and three assists in six Premier League 2 matches
🔹 Academy of Light graduate, representing England U18s
Speaking on the transfer, Kristjaan Speakman said:
“Tommy is an exceptional young talent and has attracted significant Premier League interest over the last two transfer windows. Despite our efforts to extend his contract, we were unable to reach an agreement, and we believe this deal is in the club’s best long-term interests.”
“Tommy has been with Sunderland since the age of six, and his rise to the first team is a testament to the pathway available at the Academy of Light. While we’re disappointed to see him leave in June, we know he remains fully committed to the team for the rest of the season.”
Sunderland will look to maximize Watson’s impact in the final months of the season, while Brighton prepare to welcome one of England’s brightest young prospects in the summer.
