San Francisco 49ers CEO Jed York has discussed speculation surrounding a potential takeover of Rangers, insisting that any financial dealings by 49ers Enterprises will not impact Leeds United.
Speaking at an NFL owners' meeting in Florida, York addressed the growing speculation about 49ers Enterprises acquiring Scottish giants Rangers. While reports suggest a deal is in progress, York stated that no formal developments have occurred.
“We haven’t done anything there. Leeds is obviously under the umbrella, but those are completely separate from the 49ers,” York told ESPN. “Where we can tie brands together and share best practices, we do, but in terms of financials, they don’t overlap at all.”
49ers Enterprises, led by Paraag Marathe as president and chairman of Leeds United, reportedly agreed in principle to purchase Rangers. However, the Scottish Football Association has yet to approve the deal, though it could be finalized before the start of the new season.
This comes on the same day Leeds United released their latest financial report, revealing an underlying loss of £69.9 million for the year ending June 2024. While this marks a 10% improvement from the previous year, their pre-tax losses surged by 80%, reaching £61 million following their relegation from the Premier League.
With Leeds pushing for promotion back to the top flight, how will 49ers Enterprises manage its football investments?
