Blackpool are expected to part ways with Ollie Norburn and Jordan Rhodes permanently at the end of the season, according to a report by the Blackpool Gazette. Both players were loaned out in January and are unlikely to return to Bloomfield Road.
Norburn, 32, joined Wigan Athletic on loan earlier this year, while Rhodes, 35, moved to Mansfield Town. With their contracts expiring this summer, both are set to depart on a free transfer, meaning they have likely played their final games for the Seasiders.
Currently sitting 10th in League One, Blackpool are seven points off the play-offs with eight matches remaining. Offloading Norburn and Rhodes would free up wages as the club looks to reshape the squad for the 2024/25 campaign.
Signed in 2023 following Blackpool’s relegation from the Championship, Norburn made 39 appearances in his first season. However, he struggled for game time this term, leading to his loan move to Wigan.
The former Grenada international has also played for Leicester City, Bristol Rovers, Plymouth Argyle, Tranmere Rovers, Shrewsbury Town, and Peterborough United.
Rhodes arrived at Bloomfield Road last summer after a loan spell from Huddersfield Town. Despite scoring 15 goals last season, his form dipped this year, prompting his January move to Mansfield.
The former Scotland international (14 caps) boasts a wealth of Football League experience, having played for Ipswich Town, Blackburn Rovers, Middlesbrough, Sheffield Wednesday, and Norwich City.
As Blackpool push for an unlikely play-off finish, cutting ties with Norburn and Rhodes will allow for fresh squad reinforcements ahead of the next campaign. With Steve Bruce's side looking to build for the future, expect key signings in the summer transfer window.
