Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon has officially withdrawn from the England squad ahead of Monday's 2026 World Cup qualifier against Latvia.
The 24-year-old sustained a hip injury after coming on as a substitute during England’s 2-0 win over Albania at Wembley on Friday. England manager Thomas Tuchel described the injury as "a bit worrying", prompting further medical evaluation.
Gordon underwent a scan on Saturday before being sent back to Newcastle United for further assessment and recovery. His withdrawal means he will play no part in England’s second qualifier for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Newcastle star made a late substitute appearance for Marcus Rashford against Albania, marking his 10th cap for the Three Lions in what was their opening match of the qualifying campaign.
With Gordon sidelined, Tuchel will have to adjust his squad for Monday’s clash against Latvia, as England looks to continue their strong start in the qualifiers.
