Former Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama has officially joined Scottish Championship side Dunfermline on a short-term contract until the end of the season, marking a reunion with his former boss Neil Lennon.
Wanyama, 33, has been without a club since leaving CF Montreal in July 2023. However, Dunfermline's new manager Lennon wasted no time in securing the experienced defensive midfielder as he looks to guide the club to safety from relegation.
As exclusively reported, Wanyama completed a medical on Wednesday before finalizing his move, pending international clearance.
A Dunfermline Athletic FC statement read:
"DAFC are delighted to announce the signing of Kenyan international, Victor Wanyama, on a deal until the end of the season, subject to international clearance.
The 33-year-old defensive midfielder has had a decorated career, playing for clubs such as Celtic, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, and most recently, CF Montreal.
Wanyama made 64 appearances for Kenya, captaining his country at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations before retiring from international football in 2021.
At Celtic, he quickly became a cult hero under Neil Lennon, winning two league titles and famously scoring against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League during the iconic 2-1 victory in 2012.
Following his success in Scotland, he made history as the first Kenyan player to feature in the English Premier League after joining Southampton for £12.5 million in 2013.
He later moved to Tottenham Hotspur, reuniting with former manager Mauricio Pochettino, and was part of the Spurs squad that reached the Champions League final in 2019."
Wanyama’s arrival brings much-needed experience to Dunfermline as they battle to retain their Scottish Championship status. Fans will be eager to see if his leadership and midfield presence can provide the spark needed for survival.
