Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is set to be out of action for up to seven weeks due to an ankle injury sustained during Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final victory over Bournemouth, manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed.
The Norwegian forward was substituted in the 61st minute after scoring the equalizer in City's 2-1 win, which secured their spot in the FA Cup semi-finals. Following the match, a picture circulated on social media showing the 24-year-old leaving the Vitality Stadium on crutches with his left ankle in a protective boot.
Speaking about Haaland’s injury, Guardiola said:
"The doctors have told me it could be between five to seven weeks. Hopefully, he will be ready for the end of the season and the Club World Cup."
City released a statement on Monday confirming that Haaland will consult a specialist but remains hopeful of returning for the remainder of the season, including the FIFA Club World Cup this summer.
Before his injury, Haaland endured a frustrating match, missing a penalty and two big chances. However, he managed to convert Nico O'Reilly’s cross to bring City level before Omar Marmoush netted the winner.
With Premier League struggles and early exits from the Champions League and Carabao Cup, the FA Cup remains City’s only shot at silverware this season. Guardiola’s squad has battled injuries throughout the campaign and currently sits fifth in the league, trailing Chelsea by a single point in the race for a Champions League spot.
