Two of Derby County’s key relegation rivals, Plymouth Argyle and Luton Town, have been dealt crushing blows in their fight for Championship survival.
Both clubs, currently battling alongside the Rams in the drop zone, have lost crucial players for the remainder of the season due to injury.
Plymouth’s record signing, Maksym Talovierov, has been ruled out for the rest of the campaign with a knee injury. The defender suffered the setback during Derby’s dramatic 3-2 victory over the Pilgrims before the international break.
Meanwhile, Luton forward Jacob Brown has also been sidelined for the season after undergoing ankle surgery.Luton boss Matt Bloomfield expressed his disappointment over losing Brown at such a crucial stage of the campaign.
"Browny is one of the most honest, hard-working guys I've come across in the game. He was making a real impact as a finisher, so we are bitterly disappointed to lose him for the rest of the season," said Bloomfield.
Brown himself took to social media to address the setback, vowing to support his teammates from the sidelines.
"I’m gutted that I won’t be able to help the team on the pitch for these final games, but I’ll do everything I can to support the boys from the sideline. We need your support now more than ever."
With Plymouth and Luton suffering key absences, Derby’s hopes of avoiding relegation have been given a potential boost. The Rams currently sit 22nd in the Championship table, just one point from safety, after securing three consecutive wins before the international break.
John Eustace’s side returns to action on Wednesday night (7:45 pm) with a crucial clash against Preston North End at Pride Park. With just eight games remaining, every point will be vital in Derby’s battle to stay in the Championship.
