Chelsea pulled off a sensational 3-0 victory over Manchester City in the Women’s Champions League quarter-finals, overturning a two-goal first-leg deficit to win 3-2 on aggregate and book their place in the semi-finals.
The Blues took the lead in the 14th minute when Lucy Bronze’s shot hit the post, allowing Sandy Baltimore to capitalize on the rebound and slot it past City goalkeeper Khiara Keating.
Sonia Bompastor’s side doubled their advantage in the 38th minute, as Nathalie Björn powered home a header from a Baltimore corner. Just five minutes later, Mayra Ramírez sealed Chelsea’s comeback with a clinical finish from Lauren James’s cross.
Chelsea have now faced Manchester City four times this month, defeating them in the League Cup final and securing a 2-1 win in the Women’s Super League (WSL). Their latest triumph sets up a thrilling semi-final clash against defending champions Barcelona.
Manchester City had high hopes of reaching the semi-finals after Vivianne Miedema’s brace in the first leg. However, despite Mary Fowler’s tireless efforts, including a first-half shot saved by Hannah Hampton, and a late Miedema effort that went wide, City fell short at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea will now take on Barcelona, who cruised past VfL Wolfsburg with a 6-1 victory (10-2 on aggregate). Salma Paralluelo netted twice in the first half, while Esmee Brugts, Claudia Pina, and Maria León added to the tally, securing Barca’s place in the final four.
The other semi-final will see Olympique Lyonnais, featuring Australian right-back Ellie Carpenter, take on Arsenal, led by Matildas stars Caitlin Foord, Steph Catley, and Kyra Cooney-Cross.
