Sheffield Wednesday recently made a comical error, mistakenly sending 4,000 away tickets for their upcoming Championship clash with Oxford United to Oxford City—a club that plays four divisions lower in National League North.
Rather than letting the mix-up go unnoticed, Oxford City took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to poke fun at the situation. Their message read:
"A big thank you to Sheffield Wednesday for the delivery of 4,000 tickets for your game vs Oxford United. Don't worry, we've all been there!"
They even joked about forwarding 3,997 of the tickets to their rightful owners, keeping a few for themselves.
Oxford City press officer Andy Gate revealed that the club often receives calls from fans looking for Oxford United tickets by mistake—but this blunder was on another level.
"We've never had anything like this before," he admitted.
Despite the distraction, City had bigger concerns, preparing for an away fixture against South Shields and a key home game against Warrington on Non-League Day.
The blunder might have caused some confusion, but it certainly provided a lighthearted moment for both clubs and fans alike.
