Ipswich Town’s Cameron Burgess Linked with Move to La Liga Club Girona
Ipswich Town defender Cameron Burgess is reportedly close to securing a transfer to La Liga side Girona, according to Spanish outlet Marca.
The 29-year-old Australian international, who is out of contract at the end of the current season, is said to be in advanced talks with Girona. The towering centre-back has become a fan favorite at Portman Road, having joined Ipswich during Paul Cook’s 2021 summer rebuild.
Since his arrival, Burgess has made 122 appearances for the Blues, scoring five goals. After a slow start to life at Ipswich, he emerged as a crucial part of the defensive unit that helped the club achieve back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League.
While his minutes have been more limited this season due to the arrivals of Jacob Greaves and Dara O’Shea, Burgess has still made 13 Premier League appearances—12 of them as a starter—proving to be a dependable option when called upon.
Known for his no-nonsense defending, aerial dominance, and surprisingly effective passing range, Burgess has won the respect of the Ipswich faithful. His potential move to Spain would mark a new chapter in his career, and if completed, fans will no doubt be sad to see him leave.
