Coventry City Boss Frank Lampard and Analyst Connor Lawley Charged with Misconduct After Burnley Defeat

Coventry City head coach Frank Lampard and performance analyst Connor Lawley have both been charged with misconduct by the Football Association following the Sky Blues’ 2-1 home loss to Burnley on Saturday.
The incident occurred after the final whistle at the Coventry Building Society Arena, where Lampard—former Chelsea and England star—was sent off by referee James Bell.
According to the FA, Lampard “allegedly acted in an improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive language or behaviour toward a match official around the field of play after the final whistle, which led to his dismissal.”
Performance analyst Connor Lawley also faces disciplinary action for “allegedly using improper, insulting, or abusive language or behaviour in the tunnel area following the match.”
Both individuals have until Monday, 14 April to submit their official responses to the charges.
Lampard’s Disciplinary History and Promotion Push
This isn’t the first time Lampard has faced FA sanctions. He received charges twice during his managerial debut season with Derby County (2018–19) and again during his spell with Everton.
Despite the controversy, Lampard has made a significant impact since taking over Coventry City in early December. Under his leadership, the Sky Blues have climbed into the top six of the Championship, keeping their play-off hopes alive.
With just five matches remaining, Coventry currently sit sixth, holding a narrow two-point lead over seventh-placed Middlesbrough. The club next faces Hull City away on Monday, in a crucial fixture that could shape their promotion destiny.
